So a couple of weeks ago I went to the Greek Island Kos with my two friends Carla and Kate for a week, it was so good to get away and relax and exactly what I needed. If I’m being honest this post is more just a load of the photos and something to actually remember what I did, but if it helps anyone else decide if they fancy going there – fab.

So the flight is 4 hours, not horrendous, but I have a short attention span and get bored easily and so it wasn’t the most enjoyable thing ever, but at least they seem to finally have sorted the temperature out on planes and I wasn’t absolutely freezing the whole time. They also did a Passionfruit martini on board which I’d strongly recommend – v good.

As soon as we got there and we got onto the transfer coach the holiday rep informed us they were currently experiencing a heatwave, and over the weekend would be expecting temperatures of up to 45 degrees, celsius, I temporarily considered whether I should just run back into the airport and go home immediately (I’m not great with heat) but the highest the temperature reached was 38. I’ll be honest, this was still too hot for me, even just lying by the beach wasn’t that enjoyable because I’m not a fan of being covered in sweat when I’m not even moving, but at least it wasn’t 40+.

We stayed at Lagas Aegean Village near Kardamena, which considering we were on a fairly tight budget was actually pretty nice, and the beach was literally just at the bottom of the hotel drive which made a really good view and a walk in the evening perfect.

The first 3 days we basically laid by the pool or beach, it was far far too hot to consider moving. We walked into the town one night (they told us it was a 10-15 minute walk, it wasn’t, allow at least half an hour each way, especially when it’s hot) and it literally killed us. The evenings range from being 28-32 degrees, so don’t bother with your ‘for when it goes cool’ clothing!! The town has a few cash points and shops, but we didn’t venture much further than that really!

On the Sunday evening we went to a village called Zia, it was advertised as being an amazing place to see the sun set as it’s up in the mountains. I would definitely advise anyone to go, the village is so pretty and idilic, with lots of little craft and souvenir shops and bars and restaurants, all with amazing views. We ate at a place called Olympia (I think) and the man who works there was absolutely lovely, he let us reserve the best table they had and gave us a cocktail on the house after offering to make us any drink he had the ingredients for. The sunset itself was honestly STUNNING, and completely worth the hour journey to get up there. I have never known anywhere with so many photo opportunities, so much content for the gram guys!

On Tuesday we went to Bodrum in Turkey for the day – we may not have stayed there overnight, but I’m still counting it as two countries in one holiday. It’s HOT in Turkey, it had finally dropped a few degrees in greece which made so much difference, but then we found out it’s generally 5 degrees hotter in Turkey than Greece, and when you’re walking around busy streets in the sun I found it pretty hard going, it’s very busy and people will try to sell you stuff everywhere. We went over on a Catamaran, and then went round to some historical monuments, the Antique Theatre and Myndos gate (the old city wall), and also went to a jewellery factory, where you could buy pieces from around £50 to £5000 – turkey doesn’t pay any tax on items so things are very cheap in comparison to the UK, particularly gold!

Wednesday we went on a boat cruise to three different greek islands. The boat was interesting. The sea was rough, and it turned out the seats are the very front of the boat were not a good choice, we were soaked after the first two minutes and we were literally being lifted off our seats with each wave that hit, this quickly became one of the best 10 minutes of my entire life as Carla on a boat is literally hilarious, if you have her on Facebook there’s a video which basically sums this up and her facial expressions are priceless (ly Carl). Once we’d moved seats the whole thing was a bit more relaxed, we spent the day enjoying the sea breeze, drinking fresh orange juice, making full use of the photo opportunities, and swimming in the sea. Tried to boomerang jumping in off the boat, it isn’t easy when there’s always other people in your way!! Also the Aegean sea is really salty, far saltier than the good old English Channel, so make sure you have a drink to hand if you’re going to repeatedly jump in – kinda felt like I was dying afterwards.

A piece of advise if you go to Greece or anywhere with that kind of heat/sun and you’re pale, take insane amounts of suncream. Everyone burnt, and we burnt most days, being someone who isn’t a fan of sunbathing I only directly lay in the sun for maybe half an hour each day we were at the pool, but the sun is very very hot and it basically seemed unavoidable, so swallow your pride and take your factor 50, or you may end up sat on the plane using the pull down tray as a ‘cooling surface’ for your burning forearms – not fun.

Overall I had a fab time and a holiday was exactly what I needed, we all need to just forget about life once in a while and be stress free! And if you made it this far well done, this was a lot longer than planned! :’-)

Now I’m back home and refreshed (ish), it’s on to new goals – lets go.
